Is it a good idea to weigh yourself every day?
I've seen countless threads where people are checking in with their weight on a daily basis. I feel like every article, every book, and every piece of anecdotal advice I've heard or read about fitness has said that it's a terrible idea to weigh yourself every day. They say you should only weigh yourself one a week or even…

How often should you bathe/shower?
This question is at the center of a recent NPR article: https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/09/26/917019912/in-the-era-of-hygiene-clean-author-makes-the-case-for-showering-less Dr. James Hamblin, the author of "Clean," argues that many of us are showering too often, possibly to the detriment of our skin's…

Can our bodies forget how to use certain energy sources or possibly never have learned it?
Normally the body uses various sources for energy. In everyday life mostly a mix of fatty acids and glycogen, and to a lesser extend amino acids, and more obscure things like lactic acid if available, right? For the past 30 years or more, since being a teenager I've been having crashes and since earliest childhood problems…

Vegan Milk
Perfect Day, a startup that I've been following out of curiosity more than anything else (and I know a few of the engineers involved), now has Vegan products, including Ice Cream, out in stores. Basically, this company, through fermentation methods that have existed for years, has grown milk proteins in a lab that are…

Processed foods cause more weight gain
Thread title paraphrased from article, links/sources etc within article. https://www.businessinsider.com/how-processed-foods-lead-to-weight-gain-nih-study-2019-5 Personally speaking, the inability/unwillingness to release the food I'm holding and/or stop shoving it into my mouth caused me to gain weight, but to further…

Research: gut bacteria transplant for obese teens can help metabolic syndrome, no weight loss though
I've been following this slow-burning story for a while, whether bacteria transplants can help people lose weight like it happens in mice. This study says 'no', but if you are a teen with metabolic syndrome it can help there. You can read about one of the participants here…

Has a documentary ever influenced you to eat more plant based?
Do documentaries, or reading health articles, books, etc., influence you when it comes to plant based eating? Has any information that you've come across actually convinced you to eat less meat and dairy, for whatever reason appeals to you (ethical, health, etc.)? About a month ago I watched 2 documentaries that were both…

Do you think you have a balanced diet?
I was pretty convinced I was hitting most of the food groups until I started researching some of my issues. I have white spotting on my nails and arm pimples and when I read they foods to help these problems, I realised I didn't eat a SINGLE ONE! I told my sister and she said "well obviously, all you eat is carbs and…

Can a "foodie" lose weight and keep it off?
I have been thinking about this lately. I am watching a professed foodie who lost a lot of weight following WLS start to regain. I am not suggesting that one thing must lead to the other. But does it create an additional mental hardship to have a love affair with food? I once considered myself one. I am an excellent cook…

Thoughts on Beyond Burger and other fake meat
I watched a talk show with Marco Borges, saying plant-based is the healthy way to go. BUT avoid fake meat because it's all highly processed. Opinions? Just curious.

Over eating is an ecological issue- motivation?
I was wondering if anyone else thinks about the ecological impacts of over eating, and if anyone else is motivated by that? The idea first came to me when I heard we were fishing the ocean to death. While I am a vegetarian and I was vegan for 11 years, I don't believe that veganism or vegetarianism is a one size fits all…

How early is too early for Christmas?
It’s been a hard, odd year, and a lot of people are suffering with country-wide lockdowns, illness or politics. So let’s have a debate which hopefully will not end up getting closed (unlike my last one 😱). I LOVE Christmas and need the joy and sparkle this year, not to mention helping others is really needed right now. I…

Accountability Buddies - Yay or Nay
Hello MFP! I was thinking about this while I was reading through a bunch of posts of people asking for accountability buddies, and I asked myself is it a good idea to rely on someone else to keep you accountable to your goals? My own opinion is no, it’s not, you have to keep yourself accountable. It’s not someone else’s…

Organic Food is Good for Weight Loss?
My friend argues that organic foods help with weight loss. I argue that a calorie is a calorie no matter where it comes from. A 50 calorie organic cookie is still 50 calories worth of food. If you eat too many organic cookies you still gain the same amount of weight! Am I missing something here?

Lose a stone in 21 days with Michael Mosley - opinions!
So ... thoughts? It's TV show on Channel 4, it's not long started. As far as I can tell, he's recommended 800 cals & a keto approach. I've yet to watch it so l might be wrong!! I think it sounds hopelessly unrealistic and I'm not quite sure that anyone should follow such an extreme diet without consulting their GP.…

Longevity benefits of periodic fasting? (eg- monthly)

Scales vs looks
Just wanted to know everyone’s thoughts on the wildly different ways a weight can look on a person. She’s probably 3 bra letter sizes bigger than I am, especially now, and has about the…

How do you define "Curvy?"
I wasn't exactly sure where to put this, but I figured there would be plenty of differing opinions so here we are. I recently discovered (within the last year or so) that I'm not on the same page as a lot of people when I describe myself as "curvy." To me, a woman s curvy if there is a significant bust:waist and/or…

Will "unnatural" factory farming produce better food?
Indoor farms, once a concept from science fiction, are becoming a reality. With new advances in LED lighting and renewable engergy sources, vegetable crops can be grown in a warehouse like building. Education overhaul
