Weight training at home
I live 30 minutes from the gym. I have an elleptical and a treadmill. I am learning that I need to do some weight training or strength training, is there a difference? What equipment do I need or what exercises could I do for this category? Also, what about a punching bag? My son and I play with gloves and I enjoy it. Any…

Should I trust my treadmill?
My usual cardio workout is walking at 2.8-3.0 for 60 minutes at a 10% incline (whew!). My treadmill tells me I have burned 600 calories. Does that sound right? All of the sudden I'm freaked out that I haven't actually burned that much because it sounds like so much.

ABS
Hey everyone, I was wondering what people think the fastest way to lose belly fat and have Abs? Eating right and exercising or are you mainly working on your Ab muscles?

HRM brand and style
So, to everyone that uses an HRM what is a good one that is not ridiculously expensive? I also need one that is water resistant (but not for ridiculous depths, just for standard swimming). Does it have to be chest strap or is the wrist okay? I just can't drop $100 on some of the ones that I'm seeing online, but I don't…

Too much working out????
I have a question. I am NOT an athlete but have been trying to work out more since I decided that 8 yrs is long enough to carry baby weight from my twins!! haha!! I have been on the treadmill, going to Curves, and going to Zumba classes. I have had a lot of success but started looking at the ChaLEAN DVDs a friend loaned…

Maybe this will be helpful
I just read this and thought I would post it incase it would be useful for allergy sufferers. Exercise and Allergies - Achoo! It's time to say hello to allergy season and itchy eyes, runny noses and violent sneezes. I have one client who sneezes so much this time of year, she asked me how many calories a sneeze burns.…

Fitness
I came across this site [ http://www.dailymile.com/ ] and have started using it a means to hopefully improve my running. I'm not replacing MFP but for more motivation and advice. I just started a couple of days ago and uploaded my training from my Garmin Forerunner 305 for the last month or so. You can also manually add…

Isometric chest exercise
These can be performed anytime, anywhere .An example of an isometric chest exercise is a palm press. This is where you press your palms together (as if you’re praying), exerting as much force as possible. It is an incredibly effective way to build your chest and shoulder muscles. Once you get the hang of it, another…

HRM Accuracy...?
Hi, so I've been using my HRM (Sportline- no chest strap) for a few months now. The last 3 weeks I've been training quite hard, but I am doubting the accuracy of my HRM. During my workouts I'm checking my HR at 5 minute intervals to see if I am going hard enough so that I don't slip into being too comfortable. However,…

Exercise Calories ... What the heck am I doing wrong??
So, I guess I am fairly new to MFP. I have logged my food and exercise daily (well minus one day when there was a Mexican Feast Fiasco, haha) ... and now I am worried that I have been calculating the exercise calories wrong and using wrong and that I am going to start gaining weight because of it. I'm soooo confused!

Doubting calories for gardening
Hi, I garden between 1 and 3 hours every day, and have been entering that for my exercise. I have my settings at "sedentary," otherwise - I'm a stay-at-home-mom. Sometimes I work my *kitten* off - shoveling, transporting dirt, building raised beds. Other times, I'm weeding or planting - planting is particularly low-energy.…

Workouts and Eating
I started the C25K program last week and am LOVING it! When I get done though I am beyond starving. Is it okay to eat right after a work out? Is it better to eat before? Should I wait a certain amount of time? Any snack ideas? Sorry for the million questions. Thanks for any information you can give me!

Relay for Life
I have looked in the search engine and noticed that there is no recent post for the Relay for Life. Is anyone else on the community doing one? I needed a goal to work towards and this is going to help me get to it. My Relay race is on June 18th and I want to be at least fit enough to walk 25 laps around the track with out…

Setting Weight Gain as a Goal
I was just wondering... If I want to gain weight (muscle, from weights and such), and select "Gain..." as a goal, is this site actually guesstimating what I need to do to gain muscle weight, or is it setting me up for 'bad' weight? I don't want to follow it's advice if I am just going to get heavier (which I want) but…

ugh--feeling down on myself. Please tell me this is ok.
For the past 2 weeks, i've been to the gym 5x...and yet it looks like I will only get there 4x this week and it's bumming me out. :( I just feel like this is the beginning of this slipping away from me and going to turn into a downward spiral. I've never enjoyed going to the gym as I have this go-around--but while my head…

I'm confused
I just walked on my treadmill for 20 min. and it said I burnt 118 calories. Okay, I was looking at someone elses status, and it said they walked for 45 min. @ 4 mph and burnt 210 calories. Someone's calorie counter is off and I am going to be very upset if it is mine. I thought I had a pretty good home treadmill. Maybe I…

Psychological Milestone Reached!
I hit a plateau from March 1st to about April 5th or so where I lost no weight. I have been running three days a week for 6 months and just added some 20-30 minute DVD workouts or weight training to my non-running days. I should also mention that I am one of those people who weigh themselves several times a day (am, after…

A question of soreness
OK so here's the story. I was in decent shape a long long time ago in high school. I never really ate right, but I did burn enough calories for it to not matter a ton. When I lifted the next day I was sore. Not overly "I can't lift my arms above my waist" sore, just that nice dull tension. Recently I've started P90X (in my…

Cardio + Weight Training Question...
Hey all! I've been going to the gym for about a year now, (starting to go everyday) I had a free appointment with a fitness instructor, she asked what I wanted out of this, and I said to lose weight but gain muscle,... So she put me on a plan, anyways, my first question is that she said the best thing to use to burn…

Is it possible?
Hi all - ok, I worked my butt off today moving cleaning out a home - completely - for approximately 4 hours. This involved going up 3 flights of stairs (I can't even count the number of times, while carrying things up and down). I did not stop for all but 15 minutes to eat lunch. Because I don't really know how to…

kids and exercise
Hello, I am looking for opinions. I have 3 kids 11, 9, and 5. They have no weight issues and are very active in sports. My issue is that I am doing p90x and they want to do it with me. I am concerned for their health though. I don't know if that sort of exercise will be too much for their bodies. Any opinions will be…

Feet Hurting/Tingling When Walking
Okay, so one of my main sources of exercise is walking, either on a treadmill or just out in my tennis shoes; Nike. Well I have noticed in the last few weeks that I have been getting this like tingling feeling on the bottom of my feet and it gets to a point, like today that I just can't go anymore. It starts about 10…

For those of you that walk
I am not sure what category to choose when walking. I pull my 3 year old in the wagon and walk pretty fast. I have been putting "mod, walking the dog" but I wonder if I am jipping (sp) myself? I guess that is better then over calcuating... What do you think?
