bmr confusion?
I had my bmr figured out at my gym by breathing into a tube. The fitness trainer/ nutritonist told me it was 1545. she then told me to eat 1245-1545 to lose weight and 1545 and 2045 to maintain weight. But all the posts on here say to never eat under your bmr.?? Its very confusing.

Avacado's are throwing off my fat count!
I love Avacado's. Either in the morning for breakfast or as a snack. I think Avacado's in moderation are GREAT for you. But then my whole fat count is off. I am already -43. Does this mean Avacado's are not as good as I thought. I thought they were good fats. Should I disregard my fat count?

best thing to eat at piccadilly cafeteria
Every now and then I have no choice but to eat out, and I hate not being in control. I try and make a guess as to what would be the least damaging, but the other day I got stuck with a pasta plate from Chili's that ended up to be something like 1,500 calories, more than my entire intake for the day! So, tonight I will find…

Eating enough...
I've been on this journey (this time) since January 1st, and I've lost almost 20 pounds. During the first 6 weeks, I drank 1 Pepsi a day (between 150-250 calories--depending on the size). I was not ready to deal with the caffeine withdrawals. Last week, I took the plunge and I've been Pepsi free for 5 days. I'm feeling…

Nutrition Labels Inaccurate?
Saw this on the news this morning while I was at the gym... its interesting (although not too surprising) "Recent studies show that the amount of pounding, slicing, mashing and perhaps even chewing that goes into preparing and eating food affects the number of calories people get. For some foods, a proportion of the…

Food retailers underestimating calorie content
Interesting article in today's Guardian newspaper. "Dieters who eat high-fibre foods consume more calories than they think because retailers' calorie count system is out of date" "But the system overestimated, often by 10% or more, the caloric value of some protein-rich foods which can take more energy to digest than…

Protein
Having a hard time figuring out how to get my protein in without using a protein powder....I do love them, but they are fairly expensive and I don't know which ones are good ones :( I do realize I should just eat a lot of meat, but that's almost even more expensive! What do you guys do? What protein powders do you swear…

I have NEVER put much thought into doing a colon cleanse but lately I have been having too many "cheat" meals. Telling myself that it fits into my calorie limit but at the end of the day its still crap! And crap is what got me here, so a friend suggested we try a 28 day colon cleanse. No dairy, no animal product, no…

Calorie Goal Question:
Hey, I'm pretty new here and I had a couple questions. The main one is that the calorie goal they give us, are we supposed to hit that goal or is it better to be under? I know that if you don't eat enough than your body goes into starvation mode making it more difficult to loose weight. Also, when you work out, it gives…

Raisins
Anyone know of any good brands or places to buy raisins (or dried cranberries) without any added sugar? I'd like to make my own "granola" (just oats toasted with some raisins) but can't seem to find any raisins without sugar added in. Thanks for any suggestions!

YUMMY EASY ORGANIC VEGAN MEAL THAT MAKES ALOT
I am trying to eat as much organic foods as possible regularly. Target has an awesome selection of frozen mixed veggies. Lentils are RIDICULOUSLY CHEAP LITTLE MIRACLE CIRCLES OF FIBER. So this is what I do: Get a big Dutch Oven, put about a cup and a half of lentils with water just enough to cover the lentils. Let them…

1g of protein per lb of lean body mass (apologies if repost)
ETA : Since posting this, someone has pointed out that I misinterpreted the article, which is actually talking about g per pound of total body mass, not lean body mass as I originally thought. It's still a good read though, just keep that in mind before coming to any conclusions. I've been reading around this for a while,…

CHEESE!!!! Yum!!!
I have a question for my fellow cheese-lovers out there. Cheese is one of my favorite things to eat and one of the few things I can't stick to a serving size on, whether I'm having a few slices as a snack or sprinkling some on my salad. I absolutely refuse to eat low-fat cheese - I hate the taste and cheese is my one…

NOOO! They arrived!
So, I have a crisis. I started my keto diet about a month ago and before then, I ordered Girl Scout cookies. Unfortunately, I just got them in today and I'm so sad. Who can resist samoas?! I can't :( if any of you aren't familiar with keto, your body stays in the ketosis state, which uses fat instead of carbs for energy.…

Opinions on Rice Milk?
I was thinking about switching it up. I don't use "regular" milk right now. I'm using Lactaid (lactose free milk), not because I'm lactose intolerant, but my mother is and that's just what we use at home. I'm away at uni at the moment and I still use it, but I was looking for good tasting alternatives. I can't use almond…

Fooducate App
I've never used this app until this past week. Wow, I've never realized some items I used were so awful. It's really helped me learn to read labels more and got me to shop at two local "health" grocery stores.

What happens if I can't meet my calorie intake???
Hey guys, I am doing the P90X program, going into my 9th week on 9/20. I have lost 24lbs so far and I'm trying my best to get rid of this belly and back flab that I have left. I do a lot of cardio during the week which usually consists of an extra 300-400 calories burned on top of the 600(avg.) I burn w/ P90X. Now I'm…

I am considering making a huge change and going Paleo.. Not to lose weight, but to better my health. I have a skin disease that I have been battling since OCT 2010 when it randomly began. Fermenting milk to make yogurt
Does anyone know how to figure out nutrition information of the fermented milk (I use 2% milk)? This is the way I make it: I pour about 8 cups of milk into a bowl and add about 1 cup of buttermilk in it, then mix it and leave it to sit for about 12 hours (room temperature best). It curds and has a nice sour taste, it is…

Nutrition Labels - do you find them useful?
I am conducting research for my dissertation covering consumer use & opinions of nutrition labels on food products, and health & nutrition claims placed on the packaging. Chobani Greek Yogurt... Oh.my.

Anyone experienced pain due to artificial sweeteners..?
As part of a drive to reduce my calorie intake, I recently started drinking 'diet' soft drinks, maybe 1 or 2 litres a day.
