Protien/whey powder, creatine, and supplements
I've been working out (lifting, cardo, aerobics, etc.) consistently for the past 4 months, and have seen pretty good results. I see people all the time taking shakes/powders/pills that improve there physique, mass, and strength. I'm just curious what someone would recommend to a college guy in good shape.

Calories and Exercise
Ok, this may be a stupid question, but I am still trying to figure out exactly how many calories to eat. I know that my body needs around 1300 calories to function if I just sat around on the couch all day and did no activity (my BMR). Adding in the activity of a lightly active job (I am a nanny with three boys to watch…

Hi All - If you haven't read this article on CNN, you should take a look. For me, this explains a lot of my previous behavior. http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/03/28/fatty.foods.brain/index.html Ashley

Tracking my green monster...please help!
Hi Folks, I just had a question about tracking.... I just made a wonderful green monster in my blender which consists of 2 cups of baby spinach, 1 cup frozen strawberries, 1 cup of pineapple and 3 cups of Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze with some ice. It made 4 cups worth of a kind of green smoothy. I'm drinking one cup…

Weston A. Price
Anyone out there use the Weston A. Price philosophy while losing weight? I've had the Nourishing Traditions cookbook for a long time because it is helpful with my son's combination of soy and dairy allergies. Most cookbooks use soy as the dairy replacement and vice versa. It actually gave us more options. Anyway, the…

Dairy Free Kids - Cookbook?
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good dairy-free cookbook that will include meals for kids (and picky husbands)? I have seen recommendations for the following, but would love to hear what fellow dieters would have to say: "Go Dairy Free: The Guide and Cookbook for Milk Allergies, Lactose Intolerance, and Casein-Free…

Vitamin & Nutrient Supplement Tracking
Does anyone post the vitamin and nutrient supplements that they take as food to add (I would assume) to the vitamin count at the bottom of the food diary? I'm terrible at taking pills and am lucky to have only one required medication (lipitor) and don't remember to take that daily. I'd have to read the labels to see if…

All or Nothing
In the past I tend to associate eating habits with working out. Basically, as long as my body was healthy enough to exercise (mostly running), my nutrition was always spot on with regards to my goals. As soon as I hurt myself, it is like my brain goes the opposite way which is why I've added on so much weight the last…

need 2 separate grocery lists
Hi all, I can't be the only one with a SO who won't eat the same things I do. He doesn't like vegetables or fruit unless it's corn, fresh green beans, or watermelon. He doesn't eat mushrooms, peas, broccoli, or anything like that. We do eat chicken and fish, but I am SO sick of corn, and while I like potatoes and…

How in the heck can you do it? I have real problems getting my minimum calories unless I eat pure crud. How do you get all of your calories in and not resort to eating bad food?

High protein, low carb diet...Thoughts?
In the past, I lost those last stubborn 5ish pounds by cutting back on carbs (i.e. bread) and eating lots of fruits, veggis, and protein. Since it has worked before, I figured it would work now, but it seems like the high protein diet has made my muscles grow...can a high protein diet do this??

So why exactly can't you re-freeze meat?
I have always wondered this. I've been told that you shouldn't re-freeze meat after it's been thawed but no one has ever explained WHY. Every now & then I take something out of the freezer to defrost and then for some reason I don't cook it and I just hate to throw it away...And today, I took some frozen leftovers for…

Satisfying Meals
Today for lunch I had a half sandwich with salami, mozorella, red onion and lettuce with a caesar salad and water. Was the meal higher in fat and sodium than I would have liked? Yes. However, the quality of the food was so good that I was satisfied with the portion I had and was content to not having anything else. I am…

Foods to boost energy and mood?
I have a cross-country move coming up in 8 days. Between packing up my apartment, saying goodbye to friends, etc., I'm feeling super stressed and super drained. Any foods that help with stress? Irritability? Panic? lol I really love fruit, but the last few days I've been slamming my jar of nutella with a fork every…

Friend's Rx Diet Sounds Dangerous...
This girl I work with came back from spring break on a new diet. Her doctor told her she's prediabetic and prescribed these 100-calorie meal substitutes for her. She's supposed to have five of them a day, every 2-ish hours, and she gets one 300-calorie meal a day that has to be carb-free. That's only 800 calories a day,…

Gardening for Food
Okay, so I just moved into a new house and I now have room to have a garden. I have NEVER grown a garden before. I would like to have fruits and vegetables in my garden. OK! Some of you probably know about these already but I bought them for the first time yesterday. I have been eating another whole wheat pretzel for a bit then I tried these. Could sore joints have something to do with diet?
I've noticed in the past couple of days that my joints (specifically knees and elbows) have been kind of sore and achy. Normally I would just blame this on exercise and be done with it, but I feel like it is kind of late in the game for them to just start hurting now. And I'm not even doing exercises with my arms so I…

NZ McDonalds: NOT lovin' it.
Lately, every time I drive by a McDonalds, I practically snarl at the posters in the window because I'm horrified that WW have ENDORSED three McDonalds meals for 6.5 WW points each. Three meals that I wouldn't touch with a twenty food long stick. > Filet-O-Fish burger with side salad and bottled water or diet drink > Six…

The Public Eye Diet
I read this article http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/07/dining/07camera.html?ref=dining in the New York Times this morning and found it interesting - photographing and sharing your meals as therapy and diet all at once. You know what they say, you are what you eat.

Idiot Proof Diet?
Hey all, I'm looking into this diet (and actually trying it/blogging progress right now) and I did some research. I figured this was a good community to talk to about it.
