HRM newbie has questions! Help!
Dealing with the learning curve...I'm so excited to start using my HRM! I bought the Polar F6. I have a few questions (sorry if these seem silly, please bear with me). I read the manual and I've configured it with my personal settings and did an "Ownzone" five minute warmup this morning....I thought it was just a one-time…

Question!!!
Okay, so I went on a binge today and ate all of my calories plus 300+ more all at one time! I'm not going to be able really get out an exercise until after 9pm tonight (that's 8 hours from now!) Did I blow it? I'm at work right now, and I've been standing and trying to walk around as much as possible, but I need to burn…

HR monitor vs machine - bigger difference than I expected
I recently purchased a Polar HR monitor (which I love!). I used it for the first time today on the elliptical, with both the machine and my monitor programmed with my weight and age. I know HR monitors are typically much more accurate than machines, but I found the decrepancy pretty startling nonetheless. Although both…

Exercise before bed
I have heard that it is not good to exercise before bed, but I have never heard why it isn't good. The only time I can find to workout is between 8:30pm & 9:30pm and then I go to bed between 10 & 10:30pm and fall asleep within minutes. Does anyone know why it's not good to go to bed shortly after excercising?

I pushed myself
I woke up this morning with cramps which can only mean one thing...Aunt Flow is in town:sick:  I ate an egg for protein, then went and did my 50 minutes on the elliptical. Cramps went bye-bye and I'm happy!!!

Just wondering...
When you eat your total calorie allotment for one day, does it still work for you if you exercise afterward? Say you eat all of your calories and don't really exercise at all that day, then at the end of the night you go for a nice long walk. Does your body have time to store a lot of fat? I guess I would like to know how…

What does "lightly active" cover?
In my settings I put myself down as "lightly active." I work out of my home (with three flights of stairs), take care of two kids, a dog, a lizard, approx. 30 fish & a husband, as well as running my own business. In the exercise log, you can enter things like "light cleaning" & "cooking." Do activities like that fall under…

Victorious Victoria Day Challenge - May 5
Yesterday was elliptical, a very short bike ride and walk. Today is the day off with yoga and maybe a walk. The two week mark is really looming for me. I guess I would like some sort of quantifiable progress - either inches or pounds. It was made even harder yesterday when I went out with a friend. She is quite out of…

Funniest baby-involved workout story...
So I was doing my bellydance DVD today (at the ungodly hour of 5 am) and my son was crawling around on the floor around me. I heard him squealing and grunting and making odd noises so I looked over at him and he was sitting up on his knees shaking his little hips like me, just smiling away!   It was…

Back Fat
I had my body pinched today at the gym to tell me my body fat % and I had the biggest number from my back!!!!! More than my arms and belly. The girl said that it wasn't much for my stomach, but WOWZERS.... I HATE THE BACK FAT NUMBER! Any suggestions? I know you can't TARGET fat loss from certain areas, but just thought I'd…

Victorious Victoria Day Challenge. . .cinco de mayo edition
Morning ladies! I picked up a "hip hop abs" dvd at the used bookstore yesterday, and just finished the "total body sculpt" (or something). I was hoping there'd be no squats. There were squats. But, it was really good and the time did go by quickly . (I spent an hour and a half looking at my belly yesterday, and would like…

Question for runners with HRM
Although I've been exercising regularly for a while I was not running a lot. Now I decided to include jogging in my routine. Today I was on treadmill for about 45 minutes with warm up and cool down. I did an interval training: 4min slow 4min faster 4min slow 4min slow but uphill (3%) and the whole thing twice. I've got a…

Finding my BMR HRM w my HRM
Darn, I just saw I put the wrong letters up there. I'm still learning and experimenting about the…

Can someone explain this?
Ok, this is weird. When I run outside, I can only go about 4 minutes before my lungs completely give out and I have to stop because I feel like I can't get enough air. I walk for 60 seconds and I'm good to go again. I attribute this to having stopped smoking recently. Tonight, I'm cleaning house and I want to up my…

Reps and Sets question
So...what is the recommended amount of reps and sets for lifting free weights? I want to tone up, and not bulk up, so I know lower weights with more reps, but...how many should you do? For my arms I use 5 pound weights, abs I use 15, squats 15-20 lb weights. I usually do about 20 reps each, and 5 sets...so 100 on each…

Valentine's Fitness Challenge May 4
Today it's back to bellydance class! (I'm a little nervous. . .things feel brand new again after six months) I'm going to wear my HRM, and see what it reports. I don't think the burn is going to be very high, but I'm curious. (there's lots of drilling moves and not a lot of constant motion). Also, I'm walking there and…

How do you enter it?
Let's say a person burns 1900 calories per day. That's about an average of 80 calories an hour just to keep the body running, right? Now, does MFP automatically account for those 80 calories or should that person subtract that amount from the amount that she/he burned. I've always just entered the amount of calories the…

heart rate monitors
May seem like a really DUMB question... I've been reading reviews most of the morning. But does a heart rate monitor simply tell you your heart rate as long as your wearing the strap and then You have to calculate something for calories burned? Or does the gadget tell you how many calories you've burned?
