Victorious Victoria Day Challenge. . .cinco de mayo edition
Morning ladies! I picked up a "hip hop abs" dvd at the used bookstore yesterday, and just finished the "total body sculpt" (or something). I was hoping there'd be no squats. There were squats. But, it was really good and the time did go by quickly . (I spent an hour and a half looking at my belly yesterday, and would like…

Question for runners with HRM
Although I've been exercising regularly for a while I was not running a lot. Now I decided to include jogging in my routine. Today I was on treadmill for about 45 minutes with warm up and cool down. I did an interval training: 4min slow 4min faster 4min slow 4min slow but uphill (3%) and the whole thing twice. I've got a…

Finding my BMR HRM w my HRM
Darn, I just saw I put the wrong letters up there. I think I mean Finding my BMR and RMR with my HRM, nothing like adding confusion to my confusion.:blushing: I know we have all gone round round about eating and exercise calories and it's a learning curve for most of us. I'm still learning and experimenting about the…

Can someone explain this?
Ok, this is weird. When I run outside, I can only go about 4 minutes before my lungs completely give out and I have to stop because I feel like I can't get enough air. I walk for 60 seconds and I'm good to go again. I attribute this to having stopped smoking recently. Tonight, I'm cleaning house and I want to up my…

Reps and Sets question
So...what is the recommended amount of reps and sets for lifting free weights? I want to tone up, and not bulk up, so I know lower weights with more reps, but...how many should you do? For my arms I use 5 pound weights, abs I use 15, squats 15-20 lb weights. I usually do about 20 reps each, and 5 sets...so 100 on each…

Valentine's Fitness Challenge May 4
Today it's back to bellydance class! (I'm a little nervous. . .things feel brand new again after six months) I'm going to wear my HRM, and see what it reports. I don't think the burn is going to be very high, but I'm curious. (there's lots of drilling moves and not a lot of constant motion). Also, I'm walking there and…

How do you enter it?
Let's say a person burns 1900 calories per day. That's about an average of 80 calories an hour just to keep the body running, right? Now, does MFP automatically account for those 80 calories or should that person subtract that amount from the amount that she/he burned. I've always just entered the amount of calories the…

heart rate monitors
May seem like a really DUMB question... I've been reading reviews most of the morning. But does a heart rate monitor simply tell you your heart rate as long as your wearing the strap and then You have to calculate something for calories burned? Or does the gadget tell you how many calories you've burned?

Help knee-ded
I am having pain in my knees when I go up stairs or do squats/lunges. I think I need to strengthen my quads but does anyone know of any other exercises to strengthen the quads that don't involve weight bearing knee bends... I've also had to remove the hill interval training from the elliptical. I've never had knee problems…

No way I'm eating all these calories!!
We spent over 3 hours this morning helping create a walking path at a nearby retreat center. We were cutting down small trees and hauling out branches through the woods, etc. I'm bushed! I finally found a website that gave me an estimate for that type of work and it said 1,921 calories!!! I only gave myself credit for…

I need music please!
Hey, I am getting BORED at the gym! I have about 100 songs on my mp3 player and I need new ones. I love classic rock, anything 70s, 80s, and even 60s motown. But, I don't like country, most techno, and scary rock (disturbed, etc.). Give me songs! Just list away. I have searched high and low but can't find anything else.

Victorious Victoria Day Challenge. . .May 3
Well, today is hard cardio day. (spin class for an hour, and walking there and back) Surprisingly "butt sore" today. I think wens sculpt, thurs elliptical (I'm pushing the resistance there, and upping my incline) and friday sculpt was a little hard on my "bummy" (to quote Jillian). So after spinning today, my first dance…

What was your hardest workout ever?
My second hardest class ever, was yesterday - a boot camp interval class with only two students in it. I was very lucky the other student was new to the gym because she slowed us down a bit. The class was suppose to be interval, but the teacher mentioned she was going to do boot camp - the "interval" was 1 min upper body,…

What counts as exercise?
I haven't been logging exercise on the days I don't do any organized exercise (take a walk, do a DVD, take a class, etc.), but on those days, I end up REALLY hungry and usually go over my calories. I spend a good part of every day cooking, cleaning, carrying my (22 lb.) son around and walking up and down the stairs. Does…

Decision made on HRM
Ok, after spending a few hours this afternoon looking at HRMs, I decided to go with the Highgear PulseWare Duo Heart Rate Monitor with Fingertip HR Sensors and Wireless Strap. I got it on Amazon.com for $39. Few reasons I went with it: 1) Price--it's only $40! and it had decent reviews on the 'net. It's basic but will give…
