Flu shots
I'm not anti-immunization. However, I am not convinced flu shots work. The worst case of the flu I ever got was from a family that everyone got the shot. Sometimes at work I have been the only one not to get the flu and the only one who didn't get the shot.

Bariatric surger the only option
I made a lot of headway in dieting and exercising and almost stopped when I first read the 95% stat. You know what I mean. :/ So, not to beat a dead horse but here's this topic again, sort of. I've done a lot of reading on the issue of metabolic damage and one of the things that really stood out to me was the whole "The…

bras for best support
So I wear a c cup and have always worn padded bras with an underwire during the day and no bra at night but am wondering if wearing a sports bra at night will keep them perkier for longer and the fact that they kind of squish and flatten them, this won't actually change the size or shape right?

Who really know what's healthy anymore?
Hey community! Just popping in to ask your thoughts on something that has been driving me a little crazy over the years. We are constantly bombarded with information about what's healthy, how to maintain or lose weight, how to bulk up and how to "look hot in our jeans again." Is one of those people who got suckered into…

Obesity: the Post Mortem
Watched this programme on TV yesterday and if there was ever a reason to motivate you then this is it. First time ever in UK a post mortem has been shown on TV. It's a documentary investigating the dangers of fat to the human body by following a pathology team as they conduct a post-mortem on a woman whose body was donated…

Squat depth
ATG or just below parallel? My philosophy is if you train for a physical demanding sport or are looking for overall leg development, then ATG. I train clients who are athletes this way. If you're training to just be in shape and gain a little size, then parallel is just fine. I've done ATG for just about ever. Have never…

Provide Your Sources
There should be a posting rule, where if you say something like "research says" or "studies show" or "I read somewhere that" that you have to provide a link or at least a title and author reference to your source.

basing max deficit on body-fat weight - interested in people's thoughts
this is my first thread in this forum, and i'm not looking for a debate-for-the-sake-of-debating so much as just interested in getting thoughts from people who might have better b.s. detectors for this zone than me. i found this article via good ol' google and although it makes sense on the face of it, i know a lot of bs…

Does the body have a tendency to maintain weight?
Background information: My weight loss journey began around May/June. I started at around 112-115 pounds. I was down to 105 by the end of August. Then, I adopted veganism- lost 10 pounds in a single month due to the cruelty-free diet as well as some disordered eating habits. Although I am rather short and small-framed and…

U.S. FDA orders antibacterials removed from consumer soaps
"Companies will no longer be able to market antibacterial washes with these ingredients because manufacturers did not demonstrate that the ingredients are both safe for long-term daily use and more effective than plain soap and water in preventing illness and the spread of certain infections," the FDA said in a statement.…

Weed/recreational drug & alcohol use
Just wondering if many people are interested in this discussion. I hope that many people speak from their own personal experiences and also even knowing people. Interesting study about weight gain
A study of experimental starvation does not seem very attractive, but an experiment on overeating might sound appealing to many people. Ethan Allen Sims and his associates (Sims, 1974, 1976; Sims et al., 1973; Sims & Horton, 1968) found a group of people who should have been especially interested and…

Are short fasts really helpful for burning fat?
I'm talking about fast less than 2 days in length, probably more like 16 hours most of the time. Let's say you eat lunch, then nothing until breakfast the next morning. Maybe 20 hours of fasting. I've tried this and it isn't that hard to pull off and my general experience is it does seem to promote fat loss. What do you…

Interesting way that people excuse their overweight / obesity
I'm kind of interested in the way people explain their behavior. One example is pertinent to weight loss / diet. I was having a debate with my girlfriend about this, who was arguing what basically sounded like the set-point theory to me. The argument went something like this: Me: "I think anyone can lose weight, it's just…

Gadgets? Yes/No - Debate
I see lots of people with wrist bands on or looking at watches or checking pedometers. You get the drift. But are they more of a hindrance than be of any use? Metabolism "healing" or going back to "normal"
Hello all! I was wondering what the science says about how long it takes for your metabolism to go back to "normal" levels after dieting but now eating maintenance calories? I know McDonald claims something like 7-14 days, anyone have any other claims?? Oh, and PLEASE back up your reasoning. I'm not exactly interested in…

Fitbit: employer penalties for not using.
Given that trackers are inaccurate, only track wrist movement and many other flaws, I'm surprised that many employers have started penalizing employees for not using these. None of them work for swimming. They don't track weight lifting or spinning class (my main forms of exercise due to arthritis). The IR HRM doesn't work…

Diet Pills and all that that implies
One topic I find wildly varying, and passionate, answers on is Diet Pills. I mostly mean the 9 million OTC kinds.
