I am soooo happy to say that I was able to run the entire thing!! Not only that, but I was barely tired or out of breath. Played 2 softball games right after! I never imagined this possible, you guys were right, actual races are a whole different beast than running outside or on a track! I finished it in 53 minutes! I am…

Do you lose weight in a sauna
I am sure I heard somewhere that if you spend time in a sauna you lose weight, is this true? If so, does anyone know how it works, do you burn calories or is it due to the sweating? Does anyone have any idea how many calories you would burn being in a sauna

Shake weight
My sister has one of these and swears it works.....anyone have one and actually think they work? I'm skeptical of anything gimmicky--you know fast results w/o a lot of work....

Pedometer and Heart Rate Monitor use
Hi there! I just bought a pedometer and think I must have made a mistake. Maybe I should have bought a HRM instead? Is there a reason to use both? I do want to know how many calories I'm burning when I'm taking walks or rambles in the woods; something I think the pedometer should do. But I'd also like to check the accuracy…

Dance Dance Revolution?
Anyone else love this game? Im sure its been discussed here before, but does anyone wanna start a weekly challenge involving workout mode? We could set weekly goals, discuss favorite songs, etc. Ive been playing every day this week and burning between 250 and 300 calories. At least, according to the game...but I do a lot…

p90x
That P90x is kicking my *kitten*. I just started my 3rd week. Ive been able to keep up with the weight training and the plyometrics but I havent been able to hit all 6 of my workout days. My body has needed an extra day or 2 to recover. Im thinking about adding an extra week of phase 1 to make up for it. Anybody have any…

Donating plasma, and blood doping
This is a little off topic I suppose, but its something I've been curious about for awhile. For those of you who don't know, blood doping is when you have some of your blood removed and stored outside your body. Then a day or two later, after your body has replenished the missing blood, the stored blood gets pumped back…

Insanity question
Hello, all you crazypants Insanity fans! I'm thinking about starting a round of Insanity, but I'm really worried that Insanity alone is not adequate to replace resistance training. I already do Bikram yoga at least 7 times per week, so Insanity would have to be added to my routine at the expense of weight training, which I…

Working out w/ a fan?
Does working out with a fan impact calories burned or the workout itself? It has been really hot here so I put a little fan next to the elliptical in addition to the fan that is on the elliptical (which you can bareley feel). The fan next to me works but the second I get off of there I am bursting into flames with sweat.…

Food and exercise re: Blood Donation
  1. Drink plenty of water the night and morning before you donate. The leading cause of faintness and dizziness is a drop in blood pressure. Getting lots of water into your body helps keep your blood pressure up. Don't drink caffeinated drinks, however, as they actually cause your body to expel…

Menstral Cycle and working out...uh-oh?!
So I am officially 1 week late today, I was suppose to be payed a visit from Aunt Flow on the 13th. This month has been a very grueling diet month for me because my goal date is coming up. I have been pushing myself hard this month and have drastically changed my diet since my last menstral cycle. So I guess my question…

This is what a "record" songlist looks like....
OK, this is completely stupid and self-indulgent, so ignore this if you like. I use the "calories burned" feature on my machines not necessarily as a weight loss tool, but as a measure of progress. Total calories burned during a workout represent the total amount of aerobic work performed. If you are on a machine and…

What am I doing wrong?
OK so according to my www.myfitnesspal.com numbers, between exercise calories burned and diet, I should be down 10lbs in the past month...I am down NOTHING!!! any suggestions? I am sick of kicking my own butt in the gym to simply "maintain" a weight I am not happy with!

Another Question about calories burned.
I bought a calorie tracker that you wear as a watch and i though that it was super fantastic...EXCEPT that it only tracks when the arm your wearing it on is moving. So i would do the arc trainer for 35 minutes then look at my tracker...and it would only have counted 25 minutes or something like that. But i did the math and…

Making it past the first 30 days!
I initially posted this on my blog, but I found out it is easier for others to access this info here. It was starting to get some attention. If I can help one person, its worth it. A bit about me, 43 yom, avid cyclist and a Male Nurse, yes, that is a title! And no, we are not all former hair dressers. I was in the Army for…

Do you exercise when you are sick?
I have a terrible head cold and sore throat. I did work with my trainer and do a shortened (40 min, instead of 60) cardio workout yesterday with a mild sore throat. When I was finished, I felt ok but I woke up a train wreck today. Exhausted, and the stuffiness and sneezing set in. I skipped cardio today since I was just…

How to exercise after a back injury
Hi, I recently had an automobile accident and I am off work and can't exercise yet. I am going to start physical therapy next week but even though I am watching my calories my weight is starting to go up a little because all I am doing is sitting or lying around taking pain pills and muscles relaxers.
