gazelle calories??
I just got a free gazelle, but the folks I got it from took off the monitor, so I have no idea about the calories burnt on it, I tried to google it with little luck. If anyone knows how many calories are burnt for someone approx 160lbs, for 20 minutes, please let me know. I do it in a circuit, and the time adds up to 20…

Aerobic vs Anaerobic Time?
So, everything I've read says that in order for a cardio workout to be truly effective you should do it for 20 minutes minimum. What about anaerobic exercise? How long do we need to lift weights in order to see the benefits? Trying to find a balance between the two (and perhaps a more efficient way of working out). -D

Should I keep my gym membership?
My second one that is. Currently I have 2 gym memberships and I only use the one for 1 class a week. The class is taught by one of my bootcamp instructors but since we have a break right now she has been teaching a Monday morning class. I guess if she doesn't do a Monday class someone is doing something in the group that I…

My bike + climbing = success!
Today was fantastic. My husband and I have been coming to Monterey for the past 9 yrs. We love to take a week, at least 3 to 4 times a year and devote the week to riding. Monterey is one of our favorite spots to ride. We usually do the 17 mile drive up to Carmel, but today I was in a for a treat! My husband decided to take…

Heart rate????
Anyone else notice that when they were heavier it was easier to get your heart rate up? I know that when I was heavy(230lb) I could get my heart rate up by briskly walking or lite jogging. Now i have to run as hard as I can to get my heart rate up to the same level. If we are healthier now shouldn't it be easier...not…

Swimming
I just joined my local YMCA because they have a small indoor pool. I am getting back into a new exercise program and I would like to incorporate some swimming. I am confident in the water (love the ocean) but my specific strokes are not technical at all (crawl is my weakness). I was taught the strokes when I was a kid, but…

MFP Runner's club 6/9
Good Morning All! I kind of fell off the face of the earth this past week but I haven't missed a single run!! So, I have been trying to increase my pace lately and have noticed that I am in the 90-95% of my MHR. Although my friend who is a Cardiologist said that was fine since I was in great physical health that I…

Victorious Fitness Challenge. . .June 9
It's a new week and a moderate exercise one for me. Though I didn't do weights or classes last week, I still kept the calorie burn to 750+ (except yesterday). Like WL, it's hard for me to eat less, so hopefully I won't go over by much. My back is still making me aware of it's presence. It doesn't really hurt, so it's hard…

Which to believe?
I have been walking for about two months now for half an hour on my lunch break. I keep track of my time and I walk to a landmark (two cross streets or someones address) and I map it on google when I get back to see how far I walk. This also helps me figure out my pace, (if I walked 1.4 miles in half an hour I was doing…

Playlists?
Not sure if this has been posted before, but I am curious what everyone else listens to when they work out? Does anyone have any really great play lists that can get them through absolutely any work out?? I am a hard rock girl myself, and have certain songs that always make me pump me up that extra bit. But I have been…

working out and not losing?!?!
I have been working out daily. I usually do 1/2 hour to 40 minutes on the stair climber daily and split up my weights between 4 days a week. Initially I lost 6 pounds since May 1st but am not seeing any results on the scale the last 3 weeks. I am eating my calories as I should and mostly eat VERY healthy foods. What gives?

Strengthen Shoulders?
Hey guys! I need help! My summer job is working in a paper mill, and it's a lot of lifting/pulling/pushing/shoving/use-your-weight-to-stop-spinning-roll/use-this-60-lb-pneumatic-drill-over-your-head...etc. anyways, i'm pretty sure I strained my rotator cuff in at least one of my shoulders already and it's only the…

Cyclist from phoenix AZ on here?
Just curious if there are any cycling people on here that live in Phoenix AZ... It's crazy hot, my hubby rides early in the morning on the weekends. I haven't been on a bike in 4 years due to pregnancies and 2 babies... was looking to start cycling in Sept/Oct, but if someone out there is my speed I might get brave...…

So. . .hot. . .here. . . Today is dance class, and walking there and back (about an hour's walk). Stayed within my calories yesterday, but ate sugar on a "non-treat" day. Oops. Hello! For the record, I'm a horrible runner but trying to get better (I'm not called turtle for nothing :) ) I try to incorporate jogging into my walks but it's not very far or fast. My question is is how do I put that into my exercise log? Right now I'm just putting the length of my walk/ jog in as walking 4mph in the…

Lateral Slide Training
I got a lateral slide board at Goodwill today, and from the information I have found on the 'net, it is used by speed skaters and hockey players to train in the off-season. You put on these little nylon booties and slide back and forth on it in a skating motion. I did it for about three minutes and my *kitten* is killing…

Heart rate monitor!!!!
Yesterday I went and bought a polar f6 heart rate monitor and to day I took it to the gym with me. Victorious Fitness Challenge. . .June 7
I'm just about to leave for an hour-long spin class. Next week, I'm going to change up my schedule, and try to really concentrate on getting my exercise in and eating all my calories. I've had a low-energy, no-appetite week, and I need to suck it up and get back in the game. I have half a week left of teaching, and then I…

Heart Rate_The Right Way to Measure
Your pulse is the best way to gauge exercise intensity, but taking it by hand may cause you to underestimate how hard you're working. "Your heart rate steadily declines once you stop moving [by about five beats every 10 seconds], says Gary Sforzo, Ph.D., a professor of exercise and sport sciences at Ithaca College. But it…
