Another Non-Scale Victory!
I have a pair of jeans that I bought just before Christmas but wouldn't wear until a couple of weeks ago because I had a "muffin top" going on & I can honestly say I HATE how that looks. Hubby & I went out for a bite last night & I wore those jeans. Now the scale hasn't moved in a week & I was getting pretty depressed…

My new fun workout. . .
OK, so this may be for only the Canadians out there. . . I've been tivo-ing this program called simply "Workout" which is a dance workout. The variety of dance changes about every two weeks, so far I've done a Bollywood, a Latin fusion, a Bhangra, and now it's African fusion dance. The routines are challenging enough to…

Breathe in, breathe out
Breathe in, breathe out - Fit Tip - proper breathing during weight training - Brief Article Men's Fitness, May, 2002 Sometimes it's easy to get so caught up in lifting that you forget to do what comes naturally, like breathe. Holding your breath in the weight room (unless ill response to protein-powered flatulence) has…

Curves
I'm VERY new to this chat board (I just started today!) and I was wondering how many of you have joined a CURVES gym. I've been involved with another gym before but I've recently moved and literally the only gym within a relatively close distance is Curves. I've heard that it is more for "beginners" and in college (granted…

My running plan
I hate running... I always have, but I hate it less than most other cardio exercise and I know I can do it. The mistake that I've always made in the past is in trying to do too much, too soon and hurting myself. I took the Cool Running: Couch-to-5K Running Plan and modified it. I think it assumed a level of fitness that I…

Question about soreness
I did a new workout yesterday and I am S-O-R-E today! I don't want to get off of my routine but know that pushing too hard can result in injury. My question is, should I try and keep up my routine as planned for today, adjusting as necessary so as not to overdo it or skip today to let my body recover?

Turbo Jam
I've been doing the Turbo Jam workouts and I love them? But I'm not sure how to log them into my exercise journal. Does anyone know approximately how many calories the Turbo Jam workouts burn? I know it's different for everyone, but an estimate would be great. I do the 40 minute "Cardo Party," the 40 minute "Turbo Sculpt,"…

I need some motivation
So I am 1 week and 2 days into my "Lifestyle change". I feel good about how I've been doing, keeping my calories down, not eating my "bonus" calories, exercise everyday. Until today, I am sooo tired, all I want to do is sleep all day and eat junk food! I know it's all hormonal ( if you know what I mean), but how I do I get…

The alphabet
So my co-worker told me about this exercise she saw on Oprah or something. Basically, you spell out the alphabet a letter at a time. For example. For the letter A, you would stand straight, then entend your arms and go all the way down to the floor on the right hand side (keeping legs straight), come up, then down to the…

I did not want to do my yoga workout today. Yesterday I helped my brother move some heavy furniture and my muscles are so sore today. I went on a bike ride with my dog and came home to do yoga and really really did not want to do it. So I came on here instead and got motivated so I did it anyway. I'm glad I did because I…

Good morning. It's a sunny (but VERY cold) Sunday here in the Colorado mountains. Makes you glad to be alive! Yesterday I walked for a few hours. That's it. I really need to get back on the ball. I need to keep up my exercise better so that it becomes a habit that I just do without really thinking about it. Although, I…

Yoga and Pilates (Formula for Cal. Burned)
Calories It's not that easy to calculate how many calories you burn in yoga and Pilates since the intensity of the class depends on the kind of exercises being done and the strength level of the class participants. In general, a 130-pound person would burn approximately 260 calories an hour for a light to moderate Pilates…

Gym Workout Machines
Hey everyone! I was talking to a friend the other day and he said the workout machines at the gym are very inaccurate as far as calories burned. He said you're only burning about a third of what the machine actually says....does anyone know if there's any truth to this? It doesn't seem possible, because with most machines,…
