Walk/Run at home
I need your opinion - I live in MA it is in the single digits. I can't walk outside because our sidewalks are still covered in snow and the cold air hurts my lungs. The question I have is can I lose weight by running in place or walking in place at home?? I need something to do besides dvd's. I'm getting bored and I know…

dumb question
is it ok that i log my work under exercises because im am on my feet walking around avg 6 hours a day. the reason why im asking this is because after so long I AM ASSUMING my body has been conditioned to do this with minimal effort. that being said does it still count as exercise?

Logging exercise that isn't in data base.
I been having a dilemma with my exercise logging. I have been using housecleaning for various things I do around the house but I don't consider housecleaning. For example: Today I hand washed my Jeep. It was very vigorous and I also run an Ebay Store where I'm often moving heavy inventory or very active during this time…

How to get accurate calorie count with exercise?
Hello, newbie here! I'm hoping someone can help me on how to make sure the calories burned with exercise is accurate. It seems to run high, which I hate to change LOL. But I just did 30 min on the bike at an average 14-16 mph and it said I burned 330 calories? That seems really high. The machine said something like…

Want the best results
Will it hurt my overall progress if I break my one hour daily workout into 15 or 20 minute segments? I know I read somewhere (not on MFP) that you only burn fat after 20 minutes. Calories burned would stay the same or at least close. I'm getting a little bored with hour workouts, but want to continue my progress.…

Need shoe guidance, please
Greetings MFPers! I've been a part of this community for several months now, and have, along with a smarter diet, literally worked my *kitten* off. Har har. When I started running, my husband (who's always been in shape) insisted that I buy good running shoes. He was right and it made all the difference. Along with…

Jogging and Thirst and 5k Runs
I've never been a jogger or runner of any kind, and now that I've started C25K, I love it. But I have one concern. Thirst. It's one thing when I'm on the treadmill and have my drink right next to me when I get parched, and the longest I've jogged straight so far is only 20 minutes, but what do you do during a race? Just…

EA Sports Active 2
Is anyone else using this program? My husband surprised me with the PS3 version last week to add to my routine of running and yoga. I love it so far. My butt hurts so bad today from all the squatting calf raises and lunges I did yesterday. I started the 3-week cardio kickstart on medium last week, and I'm doing my Week 2…

Treadmill "Games"
Do any of you outdoor runners have any "game" you play on the treadmill to keep from getting so stinking bored on there? I do some intervals, and creep up the speed 1/10 mile faster each minute and back down etc. but when it's time to get a longer tempo run in or something, I just get so bored and end up quitting before…

Added calories when logging exercise???
Why is it that when I log my exercises on MFP, it adds calories to my overall suggested intake for the day?? For example, this morning I burned 470 calories and my daily intake went up by that amount. If I ate those calories and kept working out trying to burn those then wouldn't I gain weight because my net would be…

accuracy of a treadmill reading for calories burned
I just bought an ProForm XT 70 treadmill. I walk very briskly at 4 mph for 30 minutes at a 10% incline. The machine says I burned 434 calories. On this website if I enter walking-brisk walk 3.8 it says i burned 250 calories. How do I tell which is accurate?

We all talk here about what we do to exercise and stay active, I thought it would be fun to talk about what our kids do to get up and get moving. Is it okay to work out with a head cold?
You know how the Chinese name years? 2011 so far is "The Year of the Cold" for me. AHHHHH! I have (yet another) head cold today, and it's the third day now. I haven't worked out for four days, which feels very weird to me. I tend to have a lot of arrhythmia when I don't work out, so I kind of need to get that heart rate up…
