Running advice appreciated :)
I am looking for some running advice from some of you experienced runners. Here's the story. I just started running and love it, but after my running I would have some soreness on the outside of my upper legs as well as just overall aches. I was running in the gym shoes I had had for years, so I figured it was my…

Two questions can you help?
1. I recently got a cheap heart rate monitor watch from walmart ($25). I have been using it like the instructions say and it has been giving me almost 100 calories more burnt during my workout than the machines say. Which one would be more accurate? 2. I have been working out 5-6 days a week 30min-1hr cardio only. I really…

Are we over-couting our workout calories?
Weird question...but maybe someone might know. I was wondering if heart rate monitors subtract resting calories from your workout calories? If I do a 60 minute workout and my body requires 100 calories per hour to function and my HRM says I have burned 400 calories...is it actually 300 calories burned? Am I a calorie nazi…

Issue--I bulk up easily, lose fat slowly
Hello, hello. As you can all see from my weight-loss ticker, I've lost nada as far as weight goes. My stomach is somewhat flatter (due to cutting out a lot of caffiene/pop) and I can see/feel my quads are growing stronger too. However, I've run into a small but frustrating problem--my butt is getting bigger and so are my…

Have you met Chatty Cathy?
I went to the gym today, and there was a woman there who was on "my" treadmill... I mean that in the way that it's the one I usually use. She doesn't like me, because I think it was "her" treadmill before I started, but then I ended up getting there at 2:15 every day... so it was probably just before she was able to get…

I am in a rut.....I haven't lost anything in a week and a half or so (usually I am losing 2-3lbs/week) and I feel I need to do something more with my workouts. I am currently doing anywhere from 30-60min of cardio/day and some strength training. My hubby just brought home the P90X. I haven't tried it or seen it yet, but…

jogging and joint stress
I know I posted a similar topic yesterday, but does anyone know if there is an exercise I can do that burns about the same number of calories as a brisk walk/ jog @ about 5 mph, but puts less stress on my leg joints. Maybe something I can do for every other day that I jog. Thank you.

Attention all Polar F11 users...
I have a few questions for you. I've been reading tons of posts but the info is all so mixed up. I just want to get some concise feedback. So F11 users (NO OTHER TYPES PLEASE), would you please answer the following questions: 1. Does the transmitter pick up your heart beat right away or do you have to wet the strap first?…

I've become obsessed!
Or so I've been told. But in a good way. Well my mom mentioned to me that she'd like to get in shape and attempt a half marathon next March. Dad and Lil Sis didn't believe she could do it so when she called to tell me about it she asked if I'd do it with her. I said yes, and so now I'm obsessed with getting ready.…

Polar 6 Heart Rate Monitor
I have one and it is the best thing I have ever found. I, however wondered about how to set it for the heart rate? Should I set it to my ownzone, automatic(limits are deternined using a age-based formula(220 minus age), manual(where I set my own), or turn it off for exercise with no given limits? I was just wondering b/c I…
